Are Super Delegates Cowards?
The presumptive Democratic nominee appears to be Obama, but Clinton is still being Clinton, using a new math and an ever changing indicator that they have a chance at the nomination. So, the question has been asked, just what are the super delegates waiting for? Would not to declare now bring an end to the turmoil within the Dem Party? I have heard the arguments, that this prolonged contest is actually good for the party, most of these arguments are from those who will support Clinton, but IMO, the drawn our deal is hurting the party more than helping.
But on to answering the question. The Supers have not endorsed for one reason–a political one. If these uncommitted come out in favor of Obama, then they will alienate Clinton supporters, mostly women, in the districts. And vice versa for Obama–they would alienate the black voter. What these political cowards really want is for this to go away, so they do not have to make that decision. Typical, trying desxparately to have it both ways.
Eventually, these people will have to wade into the storm surge and get their feet wet. But the question is, what must occur for them to act? They are hoping that the Clintons will see the light and withdraw so they do niot have to hurt their feelings by telling them it is time to cut their losses and withdraw.
I still think they are cowards for not taking control of the situation. This will probably be the last year for the super delegates, a new system will be found for the next election.
About
Info Ink was a company I started back in the Compuserve days to provide information to the world. Since the web took off the company was not as valuable as it had been. i decided to rename my blog in memory of my old company.
I am an old fart that has been doing the political thing for 40+ years. I have been a radical, convention delegate, lecturer, teacher, labor activist, political activist and a political writer. And I have yet to see this system work the way it is suppose to from the beginning.
“Stupidity is the deliberate cultivation of Ignorance”
